Esthetic Issues and Finishing in Orthodontics

The goal for each patient should be a beautiful alignment of beautiful teeth, surrounded by intact gingival papillae, and a dentition that is attractively displayed in normal conversation and on smiling. Recent concepts and guidelines in the vertical and transverse dimensions will be covered.
Practical tips on making intentional changes in tooth morphology and the surrounding marginal and interdental gingiva will be provided. Attention to details in tooth positioning and morphology will also result in improved stability compared to cases that are under corrected, proclined or overexpanded.

Finishing defines our ability to reach the goals that we consider relevant in our Treatments

The pursuit of a dental Class 1 should not be achieved at the expense of the face.
Angle’s paradigm that good alignment and occlusion of natural teeth will automatically produce facial beauty was proven to be inadequate.
This occlusocentric perspective should evolve into a new perspective that considers the malocclusion in the context of the entire face.
In this different perspective the aesthetic analysis of the face is the cardinal reference to define the ideal position of teeth, jaws and other components of the face.
Therefore I will describe how I finish my cases trying to obtain a Functional Occlusion in a proper position in the Face.
