It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 84th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society, which will be held in Lisbon from June 10th to 14th 2008. Since the foundation of the Society 101 years ago, it is the first time that the annual congress will take place in Portugal. Portuguese are proud of their history of navigators, and people who can easily create links between different places and cultures. Lisbon is a safe cosmopolitan welcoming city, where Europe meets Africa and the New World.

The Organising Committee extends a warm invitation to you to join this premier scientific and social event.

The location selected for the meeting is the Lisbon Congress Center, situated by the Tagus River. During those long and bright days of June, the area where the Congress Center is located provides a unique atmosphere, allowing for some inspiring walking, while smelling the cool Atlantic sea breezes.

The scientific program will focus on clinical orthodontics and I am sure that not only the renowned keynote speakers but also those who will present lectures, posters and table clinics will provide the usual EOS Scientific level.

The Sheldon Friel Memorial Lecture will be given by an excellent scientist and eminent EOS member, Prof. Hans Pancherz.

I am looking forward to the exchange of thoughts with an international audience on the topics of the scientific programme.

During this week the city of Lisbon celebrates it’s patronage saint, St. António. There is always a special atmosphere of lively friendship, with events starting every evening on most of the traditional quarters. It is the time of grilled sardines and red wine, open air balls and popular parades. So, after our scientific activities, other events will be welcoming you.
